Over 88,000 jobs in wind and marine energy industries by 2021

A new report has been published by RenewableUK and Energy & Utility Skills demonstrating the employment potential of the UK's wind and marine energy sector by 2021.

The report predicts that with a high growth scenario (51.8 GW) 115,000 full-time employees would be needed to work directly in the sector or supporting it by providing raw materials, manufacturing or supplying business support services by 2021.

The study gives this message to employers

Invest in your workforce, both current and future, and work with the providers of skills to ensure that they are meeting your requirements. The message for Government and skills providers is equally stark – the supply of appropriate skills to the labour market needs to ramp up rapidly over the coming years to meet rising demand. This applies both to young people entering the labour market and those looking for a career change

Here at Safety Technology we operate a one-stop-shop for all safety training required by the Renewables industry. Our training courses have also been deemed of most value to employers in developing the skills of their workforce by the Energy Utility Skills SPFP programme. This Government initiative provides up to 70% funding to employers who wish to train their workforce in these skills.

Safety Technology had a great weekend watching their partner Cresto's Superbike racer Alexander Lundh compete at the FIM Superbike World Championships at Donington Park.

We started the day by being greeted at the gate by one of the Cresto Guide team, we were then given our tickets and taken to the paddock where we were able to view the racers' bikes and watch the practice laps. We were then introduced to Alexander, who talked to us about the upcoming race and showed/explained his bike to us!

After a delicious lunch we spent the afternoon watching the races from the grandstand. Alex gave an excellent performance finishing in 10th place.

We thoroughly enjoyed the day, it was great to meet the team who were all very friendly and accommodating, as well as getting to watch and meet some of the best Superbike racers in the world! We would like to say a big thank you to Cresto and the team and a huge well done to Alexander.
